FIRST ANNUAL U.S. BANK
GALENA
PARADE OF HOMES TOUR NETS
MORE
THAN $10,000 FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Galena, IL., October 25,
2003 – Habitat for Humanity of Jo Daviess County has
received a $10,072 windfall from the ticket sale
proceeds of U.S. Bank’s Galena Parade of Homes Tour.
Beautiful warm weather and gorgeous fall leaves provided
the perfect backdrop for Galena’s first annual home tour
held October 18th and 19th as more than
1,090 people toured 10 different homes on the Parade.
Father Bob North,
president of Habitat for Humanity of Jo Daviess County
said, “We are in the process of finishing the
construction of our first home in Jo Daviess County on
Irvine Street in Galena. This money from U.S. Bank’s
efforts was crucial in completing the home for the
Hollis and Jane Dockins family in a timely manner and
has definitely come in handy.”
On the Parade, visitors
toured various contemporary and resort-style homes, a
townhouse and two custom-built log homes in the Galena
Territory. Some showcased a lap pool and Jacuzzi in an
atrium setting; soaring ceilings with loft areas and a
monster garage. Also featured were ultimate
entertainment rooms that had pool tables, built-in wet
bars, surround-sound systems, wine cellar, built-in
sauna, and even a hidden room behind a moveable wall.
Cheryl Rife, from
Stockton, Illinois, won a $250 savings bond from U.S.
Bank as part of a drawing for Parade participants who
toured all 10 homes.
“The event was a great
collaboration with over 50 volunteers from Habitat for
Humanity and employees of U.S. Bank working to sell
tickets and staff the homes for the Parade,” commented
John Mazor, executive director of the Galena/Jo Daviess
County Convention and Visitor's Bureau. “The visitors
of the Parade enjoyed themselves not only touring the
homes but taking in the beauty of our rolling hills in
the County this time of year. This has been one of the
best home shows I’ve ever seen put together in terms of
various styles and types and it peaked the interest of
many tour participants.”
Builders also were pleased
with the turnout for the event. “This event met my
expectations plus,” said Jeff Lippner, president of
Logworks, who built two of the log homes on the tour.
“It was non-stop visitors who asked a lot of questions
about log home construction and design.”
Galena U.S. Bank Market
President B'Ann Dittmar said, "The success of the event
exceeded our goals on all levels. This Parade goers had
a great time, the builders and sponsors gained exposure
for the work that they do and we were able to make a
significant contribution back to the community with
Habitat for Humanity receiving all of the ticket
proceeds.”
Plans are already underway
for the second annual event, which will be held the
weekend after Columbus Day, Saturday, October 16th and
Sunday, October 17th, 2004. By request, the hours will
be extended for the Parade next year to 9:00 a.m.- 4:00
p.m. for both days.
